20 Little-Known Details About Cardi B And Offset's Relationship
Cardi B, born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, and Offset, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, are one of the most talked about couples in the business. The two are incredibly open about some aspects of their relationship, mentioning each other on their tracks, accompanying each other to award shows and even sabotaging each other's live sets with declarations of love.
Then there are those parts of their relationship they prefer to keep quiet from fans, like their wedding that took place eight months before the world found out about it, or the pregnancy announcement that sent social media into a spin.
Fans are so interested in these two A-list rappers, partly because Cardi is quickly becoming one of the most successful and popular rap acts in the industry. But their relationship has also fascinated the world because its ups and downs have played out in front of the camera, or at least, the lens of social media.
Cardi and Offset have been through break ups and reconciliations, arguments that made it online, and rumors that would not stop taunting them. Now their fans are emotionally invested as if they were watching two characters on a reality show.
Check out these 20 things that some fans still don't know about rap's most talked about couple.
20 They First Met At An Industry Event
We know that Cardi B and Offset first met at an “industry event” in 2016, but the specific details have never been released. Cardi and Offset both like to keep their private lives private, and we know they're both good at keeping things from the press, so we aren't sure exactly what industry event this was.
In a video that she posted to social media, Cardi revealed that Offset pursued her in the first place, which is how they kicked things off. “He was very consistent,” she told fans in the video. “He really wanted to talk to me.”
19 Their First Date Was Pretty Spectacular
Luckily, a little more is known about their first date than their first meeting! The two rappers attended the 2017 Super Bowl together, which is a pretty spectacular place to go for a date. Cardi posted a story on IG about it, and called Offset “my friend… you know what I'm saying?”
After that, fans started to speculate that the two were more than just friends. In a 2018 interview with Rolling Stone, Offset confirmed that the Super Bowl was actually their first date, and said that taking Cardi to such a place was a “power move.” Indeed!
18 Cardi Denied The Relationship For A While
Throughout 2017, Cardi denied that she was seeing Offset, despite accusations from curious fans. In a June interview with Fader magazine, on which she was the cover model, Cardi spoke about Offset while avoiding confirming whether he was her boyfriend or not.
Instead, she focused on how much she admires his work ethic. “It's been a blessing, me meeting him and meeting his friends. I see how hard they work. And that motivated me to work even harder,” she said. “And I see how good things are going for them and how popping it is to be number one. And I'm like, I want that.”
17 Their Wedding Was A Total Surprise
Cardi and Offset were married on September 20, 2017. Even though they're two stars, the world didn't find out about this until almost a year later in June of 2018, when TMZ managed to track down their wedding certificate. That is one big surprise!
Cardi did drop a pretty big hint while talking to Charlamagne Tha God, though: “I'm a woman. Every woman, I think, wants to get married and wants to have children. It's never too early to get married now. You know, if you want to propose to me, you can.” Despite her lack of subtlety, fans still had no idea the couple was hitched until many months later!
16 And There Was Nothing Extra About It
Their subtle ceremony took place in Fulton County, Georgia. And unlike Cardi's most recent Grammys costume, there was nothing extra about it. “We found someone to marry us, and she did, just the two of us and my cousin,” Cardi tweeted. “I said I do, with no dress, no makeup and no ring!”
Fans went wild when the 'Bodak Yellow' rapper confirmed her marriage via a written statement on her Notes App: "There are so many moments that I share with the world and there are moments that I want to keep for myself! Getting married was one of those moments!”
15 After Their Wedding, Offset Proposed In Public
One of the strangest details about Cardi and Offset's relationship timeline is that the proposal came after the wedding, at least in public anyway. Offset proposed on stage and made headlines, but little did fans know that the two were already married at that point.
When Cardi came clean about their marriage the following June, she explained why he proposed when she was already his wife. “I appreciate and love my husband so much for still wanting me [to] have that special moment that every girl dreams of when he got down on his knee and put a ring on my finger and he did that for me!!” she tweeted.
14 They Don't Listen To Other People's Opinions On Their Relationship
A lot of people have a lot to say about Cardi and Offset, but the two like to keep the calm in the eye of the storm by ignoring most of the comments. They don't take anybody's opinions seriously, but their own.
“I don't need to be rushed or be told what to do,” Cardi tweeted, in response to fans urging her to leave Offset after rumors that he'd betrayed her surfaced in early 2018. At this point, fans still did not know that they were already married. “Its my life! I belong to me not to the world.”
13 But Sometimes The Press Gets To Them
Their aim is to ignore what people say about them, but when that many opinions flood toward you, it's impossible to ignore all of them. And sometimes, all the rumors get to them.
“Every single day there's rumors about me and my dude,” Cardi revealed in an interview. “And it almost drives me crazy, because I start to believe them. I don't have no proof. I don't have receipts. But I just got to know my man. We practically on the phone 24 hours a day. If I can't find him, I'm going to find his friend. Somebody going to answer the phone. But I cannot be feeling insecure, to a point that I would drive my dude away, because these people want that to happen.”
12 There Have Been Faults On Both Sides
Cardi and Offset's relationship has come with sharp ups and downs, and to say that it's been a rollercoaster ride would be an understatement. But Cardi addressed some of their issues in her cover interview with Cosmopolitan, and explained that although Offset has made mistakes that have gone public, she has also been at fault.
“Everybody is coming down my neck like, 'Why are you not leaving him? You have low self-esteem.' I don't have low self-esteem,” she confirmed. “I know I look good. I know I'm rich, I know I'm talented. I know I could get any man I want-any basketball player, football player… [what he did is] not right… but people don't know what I did, 'cause I ain't no angel.”
11 They Both Denied The Pregnancy
First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby. Both Cardi and Offset denied pregnancy rumors after they started swirling in early 2018. On IG, Cardi told one of her followers that she had just put on a few pounds, and to let her put on weight “in peace.”
Nicki Swift reported that Offset, who was already a father of three from previous relationships, confirmed that Cardi was not expecting when he caught up with TMZ in February of 2018. In hindsight, we know that Cardi actually was pregnant. And as her bump grew, it became more difficult to keep it under wraps.
10 But Then Cardi Announced It In The Best Way Possible
Cardi finally announced her pregnancy in a truly Cardi way. During her performance on Saturday Night Live, she emerged in a tight white dress that showed off her bump to the world. Following this, Offset took to Twitter to post a picture of the loved-up couple with the caption, “Cardi and I look forward to our next chapter together.”
After the show had aired, and fans had a chance to get beyond excited at the thought of another little Cardi running around, Cardi also hopped on Twitter to follow up her announcement. “I started winning when the whole world was doubting on me! think imma lose with my little baby counting on me?”
9 They Didn't Trust Each Other For A Long Time
According to Nicki Swift, Cardi and Offset found it hard to trust each other in the beginning of their relationship. With thousands of publications and social media commentators coming for them daily, that's not hard to understand!
“For a long time… we was in love with each other but we didn't really trust in each other,” the rapper revealed in an interview with GQ. “People used to put things in my head: 'He gonna leave you… ' People used to put things in his head: 'Cardi… Don't trust her.' We never really trusted each other because I always feel like he could get any girl he wants-what makes me think he's gonna want me? I think he felt the same way.”
8 Their Work And Personal Lives Intertwine
Like that of many celebrity couples, the personal and work lives of Cardi and Offset have often intertwined over the past two years. They've appeared on a number of tracks together, including 'Lick' which was their debut collab. Even when Offset isn't on the track, Cardi has no problem mentioning him in her raps.
This is obvious on 'Bartier Cardi', where she talks about her relationship with the Migos star. Fans have pointed out that Cardi loves to mention Offset in her songs, and Cardi seems more than proud: “… when I'm about to die last word out of my mouth is OFFSET.”
7 Offset Named The Baby
After announcing her pregnancy on SNL, Cardi spoke about her pregnancy on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. And while chatting with Ellen, the rapper revealed that it was actually Offset who came up with the baby's name, Kulture Kiari Cephus.
“My dude named the baby,” she told Ellen. “I really like the name. I'm gonna let him say the name since he named the baby.” In her interview with Ellen, she also revealed that she was able to disguise her bump with Spanx and lots of layers of clothes! Only recently has Cardi revealed a photo of Kulture's face, and she's as gorgeous as we all imagined she would be!
6 Cardi Often Goes To Offset For Advice
It's clear from the fact that Offset named the baby that Cardi values his opinion. Nicki Swift reported that she constantly goes to him for advice, no matter what stage their relationship is at.
“I'm very indecisive, and that's a very bad trait I have,” Cardi said in an interview with GQ. “It's so bad. And then I always feel like I need-like I need somebody to tell me something. [Offset's] always screaming at me for that… ” Cardi also revealed that she goes to Offset when she needs advice about her work. “Do you like his song” and “Do I sound good in this song?” are just some of the questions she runs by him.
5 Geography Added To Their Problems
Cardi and Offset have faced a lot of hurdles, including a lot of attention from the press and busy schedules. The other element that made it difficult for them to ever reach a happy ending is the issue of geography. While Cardi comes from the Bronx, Offset calls Atlanta home.
“Offset's never comfortable in New York,” Cardi revealed in her interview with GW. “He loves down south. He told me to move with him, in Atlanta. I stayed in his house a couple of times, but it's so hard to live there.” The rapper also admitted that even though they were both finding it difficult to live away from home, Offset decided that Kulture would be raised in Atlanta.
4 Offset Has Publicly Apologized To Cardi
Just as their relationship has had its share of happy moments, it's also experienced the lows. Cardi and Offset have called it quits a few times, sometimes taking their split public and sometimes keeping it to themselves. After the two had officially separated, according to reports, Offset posted a video online saying that his birthday wish was to get his wife back.
“I wanna apologize to you, Cardi,” he said in the video. “I know I embarrassed you. I was partaking in activity I shouldn't have been taking in.” Offset also called himself a selfish husband. Her fans took to social media to reject him on her behalf, saying he didn't deserve another chance.
3 He Even Ambushed Her Set To Ask For Her Back
Things took a more dramatic turn at the Rolling Loud festival when Offset actually showed up on stage during Cardi's set, begging her to take him back. In the videos of the incident, Cardi looks annoyed with Offset, but some organizers of the event claim that she actually knew he would be joining her on stage, and it was just a publicity stunt.
After the unpleasant encounter, Cardi streamed a video of herself on IG Live. “I get that he's trying,” she said, sharing her reaction. “It's hard. It's gonna take a long time to-I don't know what's going to happen next… I just feel bad. This is why I don't like surprises.”
2 Some Fans Believe They're Still Together
After confirming their split in December of 2018, Cardi and Offset appear to have reconciled, at least to some extent. At the Grammys on February 10, Cardi actually brought Offset up on stage with her to accept her Grammy for Best Rap Album. Not really the behavior of exes, right?
Since then, Cardi has also been seen wearing her wedding ring. In January, Cardi also told fans that she missed having her greatest supporter and best friend by her side and hoped they could work things out. While some fans think the two still have a way to go, others believe they've already patched things up and are back together.
1 There Will Always Be Feelings Because Of The Daughter They Share
Regardless of whether they are officially a couple or not, it's clear that Cardi and Offset will always have feelings for each other. Cardi herself confirmed it in her announcement that they were breaking up in early December.
“And it's nobody fault,” she said in an IG video. "It's just like, I guess we just grew out of love, but we're not together anymore. I don't know it might take time to get a divorce, and I'm going to always have a lot of love for him because he is my daughter's father and yeah.” Whatever happens, little Kulture will always keep these two connected.
