17 Celebs Who Are (Sadly) No Longer Considered Swoon-Worthy
The world can be a fickle place where anti-aging skin care products are a way of everyday life. We spend most of our days fighting Father Time tooth and nail in order to stop the aging process dead in its tracks. And no place is more fickle than Hollywood where celebrities flock to some of Los Angeles' finest cosmetic doctors in order to successfully turn back the clock. Sometimes, however, it's the ones who tend to surrender gracefully to the aging process who reap the greatest rewards.
Celebs like Jennifer Lopez and Brad Pitt seem to be aging backward and actually manage to look 10 years younger than they did before. But then you have the celebs that were once phenomenally stunning and considered “swoon-worthy” by their fanbase who are apparently “less-so” these days. That could be just because they aged in a less than stellar way, had an overabundance of artificial enhancements, or just possibly decided they no longer cared about their physical appearance.
Most of the celebs on this list couldn't possibly care less about what people think about their looks - their happiness and the happiness of their families are the only things that matter. And you know what? They're absolutely right.
Hollywood is subtly changing and celebrities are setting new standards of what's considered beautiful, which is a pretty powerful thing. And these 17 celebs are all for it.
17 Still Diva-ing Out - Mariah Carey
Music lovers all over the world were shocked when Mariah Carey first stumbled onto the scene and blew us all away with her insanely beautiful voice and vocal range back in the early 1990's. She had hit songs like Love Takes Time, Dream Lover, and Vision of Love that hit the top of the charts back then. When we first saw her, she was this exotic beauty with a mop of curly hair and stunning deep eyes. Nowadays, Carey still has the same remarkable vocal range, but her alleged diva-ing around has gotten troublesome for some of her fan bases. Thing is, Carey knows she's a diva and she doesn't really care what others think about her, and it's actually pretty admiring. She has confidence that can't be shattered by anything or anyone.
16 Keeping Up With Rob - Rob Kardashian
Now, when we think of the Kardashian family, the boys aren't the first thing that comes to mind. We think of Kim Kardashian, who was once the face of the entire family (before, you know, Kylie started making more money than her big sis with her cosmetic lines), or of Khloe Kardashian who is the clever one of the group. But Rob? Well, he didn't come up on our radar UNTIL he actually was no longer considered “swoon-worthy” by the public. The Kardashian fan base became obsessed when Rob stepped into the picture fulltime by dating Blac Chyna, who happened to be the ex-girlfriend of Tyga, who was dating Kylie at the time. As expected, this brought on turmoil between everyone, even when Rob and Blac had their baby girl, Dream. It appears that the dust has settled a bit since then, though.
15 What A Girl (Still) Wants - Amanda Bynes
Years ago, Vanity Fair magazine profiled young starlet Amanda Bynes in their Young Industry issue along with some other famous faces (like Mandy Moore and the Olsen Twins among others). Around that time, the young actress made waves thanks to her perfect comedic timing in movies like She's The Man, What a Girl Wants, Hairspray, and Easy A and seemed to charm audiences everywhere. But back in 2010, Bynes announced that she was going to step away from the spotlight in order to work on herself since she had been struggling with some personal problems in her life. Over the years, personal life has seemingly gotten more bizarre with each passing day, but she appears to be attempting to make a come-back sometime this year, so we all look forward to that.
14 The Scotish Wonder - Gerard Butler
Most of us didn't know the name Gerard Butler until he fought his way into our hearts in the epic war film 300. Butler had been around on the screen for years though. After giving up studying law in his younger years, the Scottish-born Butler turned to acting as a career and starred in numerous small roles until he was cast to play the title role in The Phantom of the Opera with Emmy Rossum in 2004. From there, he was cast in 300, which gave him a larger platform to show off his craft. He went from playing hardcore action heroes to playing the romantic interest in a lot of romantic comedies (like The Ugly Truth) and the romantic lead in some tear-jerkers as well (like P.S. I Love You). He's set to star in three different films that are being released this year.
13 Living The Family Life - Heidi Montag
Heidi Montag burst onto the scene when reality television was just starting to heat up. She starred in the MTV series The Hills which was a spin-off of the popular show Laguna Beach. Hills was based around Lauren Conrad (who starred in Beach), a young woman who was trying to make it in the world of Fashion. Montag and her future husband Spencer Pratt were primary figures on the show, but as the money poured in, Montag slowly appeared to become addicted to plastic surgery, which she openly admitted. After getting married, the couple tried desperately to hold onto fame by starring in other reality shows like I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! along with Montag attempting to start a music career (both fell flat). These days they're living the family life after having their first child.
12 Trying To Break The Childhood-Actor Mold - Macaulay Culkin
When he first warmed our hearts, it was when he was left home alone over Christmas time when his family accidentally forgot him while on a trip to Paris in the unforgettable comedy Home Alone. After first seeing Macaulay Culkin appear on the screen, we had a feeling that he was going to have a long, successful career ahead of him. He had managed to charm audiences at such a young age, unspeakable fame seemed to be in his future. Well, we were only half right. While he did become super famous, he disappeared from the limelight after a while, only to return looking extremely different. Maybe it was his break up with Mila Kunis that had him looking not quite like himself? Either way, we miss you, Macaulay.
11 She Doesn't Care What You Think, She's Will Always Be Awesome - Kelly Clarkson
We were left captivated in 2002 during the first season of American Idol when the wonderful Kelly Clarkson took to the stage and belted out Aretha Franklin's “Natural Woman”. She ended taking home the crown and seemed to become famous basically overnight. After that, her career seemed to take off and she started winning Grammy Awards with her second studio album Breakaway, where she seemingly changed up her style, which won over her listeners. She has gone on to make numerous albums, guest host other reality music programs and even pen some children's books. Clarkson is also the proud mother of two children, along with two stepchildren. Sure, people like to get on her case about her fluctuating weight, but she couldn't care less and is just seemingly living and loving life.
10 The Former Mr. Britney Spears - Kevin Federline
So you married one of the most famous women on the face of the planet and then let yourself go once she divorced you? Well, that seems to be understandable. The name Kevin Federline didn't come onto our radar until the 2000's when pop superstar Britney Spears ended up marrying him. Apparently, Federline was actually one of Spears' back up dancers who had enamored her. They got married and then had two children together. The entire romance seemed like a haze and Britney ended up going off the deep end a little after it failed. Nowadays, Federline still appears to be after Britney's money since he's asking for more child support money from her father (as reported by pagesix.com), who manages his daughter's money. Spears does pay child support to her ex, but it allegedly seems like he wants to profit from her successful Vegas show now.
9 Cheers To Kirstie - Kirstie Alley
Actress Kirstie Alley always seemed to play the stern, but loveable, characters on screen. This was probably because she oozed with intelligence and grace but yet had an abundance of comedic timing, which is why she was hired to basically take the place of Shelly Long's character Diane on the comedy series Cheers. Alley played Rebecca Howe, the love interest of Ted Danson's famous character Sam Malone. After hitting fame there, Alley starred in the Look Who's Talking franchise and the NBC sitcom Veronica's Closet. Later on in life, Alley constantly struggled with her fluctuating weight and became a spokesperson for Jenny Craig from 2004 to 2007 and again in 2014. Alley is also an outspoken member of the Church of Scientology and denounced actress Leah Remini after she left the Church.
8 9 1/2 Years Later - Mickey Rourke
If you weren't in love with actor Mickey Rourke after seeing the 1980's hit movie 9 ½ Weeks, people probably felt sorry for you. Even if you weren't in love with him, you had to admire his top-notch acting abilities and boyish charm. However, after training for years during his youth to become a boxer, Rourke decided to leave behind the silver screen and Hollywood fame to go into boxing full-time in 1991. His career as an athlete didn't seem to last very long, however, and he ended up retiring from the ring in 1994. After returning, his face had definitely changed, but his acting was still stellar and his come-back to the screen was highly anticipated. He even went on to be nominated for an Academy Award in 2009 for his portrayal as a past-his-prime wrestler in The Wrestler.
7 Powering On - Madonna
She's quite possibly one of the most iconic singers of all time. Madonna not only mesmerizes with her voice, but with her very presence alone. The Queen of Pop was one of the most controversial human beings back when she broke onto the music scene in the 1980's and flew to the top of the charts with hit singles like Cherish, Lucky Star, Vogue, and Like a Prayer. She had yet to slow down even for a single minute in her long career and eventually moved over from the music scene to Hollywood and starred in films like A League of their Own, and Evita. Over the years, Madonna looked as if she hadn't aged a single day since the 80's, but as the years wore on, it appeared that Father Time had caught up with her. Nevertheless, her legend status will never fade.
6 Swimming In Hot Water - Johnny Depp
We fell in love with him when we first saw him on the TV drama 21 Jump Street and our love for him didn't fade years later when he took on the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Johnny Depp has always been one never to shy away from eccentric roles like Sparrow, or even Willy Wonka whom he portrayed in 2005's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. However, these days it appears as if life was wearing the famous actor thin. He's dealing with personal issues with his former wife Amber Heard along with dealing with multiple money issues even though he once was one of the most bankable actors in all of Hollywood. I'm sure he'll be backing a comeback shortly and prove to the world that he still has what it takes.
5 Still Happy After All These Years - Goldie Hawn
Actress/model Goldie Hawn has one of the most unforgettable faces in Hollywood thanks to her adorable and down-to-earth smile. She proved to be more than just a pretty face after she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Cactus Flower. Before then, she was mainly known for starring in the NBC sketch comedy show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. She didn't slow down in the 1980's and 90's and starred in hit movies like Overboard, Death Becomes Her, Housesitter, and The First Wives Club. Recently, Hawn made her come-back to the screen in the movie Snatched, where she played the mother of comedian Amy Schumer's character. In real life, she's the mother of Kate Hudson, Oliver Hudson, and Wyatt Russell and is just enjoying life alongside her longtime partner, actor Kurt Russell.
4 The Once Dream Boat - Brendan Fraser
Here's one actor who seems to enjoy disappearing, and then suddenly reappearing without warning years later on some obscure Showtime TV show. Sure, Brendan Fraser played in some little quirky movies like Encino Man, Bedazzled, and George of the Jungle, but he was best known for playing the non-nonsense Rick O'Connell in The Mummy trilogy alongside Rachel Weisz. He later branched out to play in some more serious dramas like Crash, Gods and Monsters, and The Quiet American. After taking a break from the big screen, he moved over to television and found a whole different audience when he starred in the History Channel's miniseries Texas Rising. From there, he made our stomachs churn by playing a corrupt prison guard in the Showtime drama The Affair.
3 Fondly Reliving Model Days - Cybill Shepherd
If you ask anyone older than 50 years old, they'll say they remember model Cybil Shepherd from her dramatic turn in the drama Taxi Driver. But if you ask anyone born in the early 1980's, they'll say they remember her famous face from her comeback vehicle, Moonlighting, where she played an ex-model-turned-detective alongside Bruce Willis. Either or, Shepherd had one of the most memorable beautiful faces to ever grace print or the silver screen. The camera just seemed to fall in love with her and when it did, audiences soon followed suit. Even though she starred in a bunch of stuff following Moonlighting ended up defining her career thanks to her onscreen chemistry with Willis. These days, the former model is starring in mainly Lifetime-like TV movies (after leaving behind the big screen and the big stage after appearing on Broadway's The Best Man).
2 Havard's Former Golden Boy - Matt Damon
Even though he had been on the Hollywood scene for a while, the world didn't take notice to Matt Damon until his Oscar-Award winning film Good Will Hunting graced the screen. Damon and best buddy Ben Affleck took home the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for their movie and became instant darlings of the media. As we all know, Damon went on to star in almost all the Ocean's Eleven movies and became Jason Bourne, the protagonist of the Bourne Identity franchise. Since then though, Damon has found himself in warm water with some of the things he's said about the #TimesUp and #MeToo movements that have Hollywood in a choke hold (most of which were taken out of context). Is he still considered a golden boy, though? Most likely.
1 Remember, He Was Once Batman - Val Kilmer
He wowed us for a moment when starred in Top Gun and Genius in the 1980's. Captivated us in the 90's when he portrayed Jim Morrison in The Doors and Doc Holliday in Tombstone. But we had to pause for a second when he took over as Batman in 1995's Batman Forever because we weren't quite sure exactly WHAT was going on with the Batman movies after Michael Keaton vacated the role. But, regardless, actor Val Kilmer has always been one of the most talented actors of his generation and it's easy to see that in his work. Like most aging actors in Hollywood, Kilmer's work has declined thanks to getting older. Doesn't mean he stopped working completely. The last film he appeared in was 2017's Song to Song alongside Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara.
