15 Celeb Couples That Meghan And Harry Hang Out With (& 5 We're Surprised They Don't)
On May 19, worlds collided when Prince Harry married American actress Meghan Markle; a beautiful ceremony, that millions of people tuned in for all around the world, occurred, bringing together Hollywood stars and elite British royals. It was considered the most anticipated event of the year. The ceremony itself was quite the whirlwind of class and magic, with the British royal family breaking away with tradition to accommodate Meghan and Harry (which included Bishop Michael Curry's sermon and a choir singing “Stand By Me” during the wedding).
The couple was completely enamored with each other during and after the ceremony as they held hands and stole loving glances with each other, proving that they are really and truly in love. After the wedding, a private reception was held for the couple and 200 of their closest friends, including some top-notch celebrity couples, which leads us to ask the question: who are some of the celebrity couples that both Meghan and Harry like to pal around with. If it's based anything on that guest list, we're in for a treat.
We composed a list of celebrity A-list couples that the newlywed royal couple pals around with, along with five we wish they did pal around with.
20 Well, This One Is Pretty Obvious - Prince William and Kate Middleton
C'mon - you knew this one was going to be the first couple in the bunch. The two princes were extremely close growing up and remain so now. They're basically all they have in terms of confidants who understand where each other comes from. Quite naturally, both Prince Harry and Prince William are still extremely close and chances are, their families are going to continue to grow together, as explained in Us Magazine. Meghan Markle fits in quite nicely with the couple, personality-wise, and is extremely adored - just like her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton.
In their youth, they were practically inseparable and their bond became even stronger when they suffered the loss of their mother, the late Princess Diana Spencer.
Chances are, both the couples will spend a great deal of time together in the early stages of Harry's marriage to Meghan, as she gets used to now living the life of a royal (as Kate had to at the beginning of her marriage to William). They're going to show her the ropes and help her out in her early days and the boys' relationship will only get stronger. And the world can be prepared to see some extremely cute pictures of the two families bonding and raising children together.
19 Handsome Couples All Around - David Beckham and Victoria Beckham
As we all know, Prince Harry and the new Duchess Meghan are actual royalty, while former soccer superstar David Beckham and his wife, fashion designer and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, are basically considered celebrity royalty. The Beckhams and the newest royal couple hanging out just makes sense if you think about it since David's friendships with each of the royal brothers go way back.
When asked by Esquire if he considers Prince William a friend, David answered candidly: “Yeah, I think I would. We've done a lot of functions together."
He continues: “It's a very normal relationship. With Harry, as well. They're very easy to get along with. They love their sport. William loves Aston Villa, unfortunately, which obviously I give him a bit of stick about.”
“They're two people [the princes] who have grown up in the spotlight and the respect that I have for them, and that people in our country and all over the world have for them, is amazing. I have a huge amount of respect for William and Harry because of what they've been through from a very young age. They're a credit obviously to their mum and everyone in the Royal Family.” That's some high praise right there.
18 Sporty (Super Famous) Pals - Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian
The friendship of Serena Williams and Meghan Markle doesn't go as far back as David Beckham's friendship with Harry and William, but it's extremely tight, nevertheless. Both Williams and Markle met back in 2014 and “hit it off immediately”. Serena even has written posts for Markle's website and the former actress went to support Williams when she played at the Australian Open and the U.S. Open.
Markle even went as far as to call Williams her “closest friend.”
“I'm obviously super happy for her,” the tennis superstar said on Good Morning America prior to the wedding. “She's such a great girl and she is incredibly nice and I couldn't be happier for her.” Since Serena's a newlywed herself (she married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian last November) she gave out some wedding advice when asked.
“I just think it's so important to enjoy the moment. And eat the cake - I didn't get to eat mine at the wedding. We were just having so much fun!”
The public got a first glimpse of the royal couple kissing at one of Serena's matches when both went to cheer her on, so it's not too shocking to learn that they plan on being close to Serena and Alexis in their marriage.
17 Powerhouses Countries Apart - Amal and George Clooney
Talk about what deserving fun couples these two are. As you've likely heard by now, both George Clooney and his human rights lawyer wife Amal stole the show at Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding - and at the reception. According to Harper's Bazaar, Clooney (who is pretty much the life of EVERY Hollywood party) hopped behind the bar at the private wedding reception that took place at Frogmore House and played bartender. Clooney actually turned into a beverage entrepreneur with the introduction to his Casamigos Tequila and was serving shots of his creation at the reception.
“Clooney got behind the bar and was making cocktails for everyone,” an insider told Page Six. Clooney even has ties to the Royal Family thanks to his drink. Jack Brooksbank, who is the finance of Harry's cousin Princess Eugenie, is actually the U.K. brand ambassador of Casamigos.
Clooney also took a spin around the dance floor with Meghan and her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton.
The Clooneys are the perfect mix of charisma and power that suits both Harry and Meghan perfectly fine, which explains why the duo is close and why the Clooneys are a must at pretty much every royal function. And how do they happen to know the royal couple? Well, they were introduced and became friends after Meghan and Amal discovered they go to the same hairdresser! Can't wait to see what pictures are in store for these two couples in the future. Hopefully, George hopes behind the bar at every party.
16 The Should-Be Future James Bond and The Prince - Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre
When it comes to the Clooneys in the charismatic department, it appears that George may have some competition with fellow actor Idris Elba. Elba attended the Royal Wedding with fiancée Sabrina Dhowre and at the reception following the wedding, Elba himself actually got behind the DJ booth and showed off his epic spinning skills, according to People. This inevitably prompted all the younger generations to hit the dance floor.
Wait… so a Prince-Harry-and-Meghan-Markle function included George Clooney behind the bar and Idris Elba behind the DJ booth?
Where the heck do we sign up?
Elba actually has some a very important connection with the Royal Family and is not just around to make their parties more fun. According to Bustle, Elba was actually a part of Prince Charles' founded The Prince's Trust - an organization that puts together grants for young individuals who “are facing economic hardships to help them achieve their dreams and avoid unemployment.” Elba is actually a Prince's Trust ambassador.
“I left school at 16 with dreams of attending the National Youth Music Theatre but was disheartened when I realized how much it would cost,” he said, as reported by Harper's Bazaar. “It was The Prince's Trust who made it possible. They gave me a 1,500-pound grant and set me on the path that would eventually change my life.”
15 Besties For Life - Barack and Michelle Obama
Okay, so they weren't invited to the Royal Wedding; with good reason, though - not because they're no longer close, but because no political figures were invited to the wedding. However, that doesn't mean Harry, Meghan, Barak, and Michelle aren't still close friends. Late last year, as reported by Express, Harry even made an appearance at Obama's first Foundation Summit (where it's said Obama even “quizzed” Harry on his romance with Meghan). Harry and the former President first met in the Oval Office back in 2015.
“It is a testament to the special relationship, the incredible bond that we share between our two countries,” the President said of Harry's visit. “And that bond continues into the next generation of leadership that His Royal Highness represents.”
The Obamas then later traveled to Kensington Palace to meet with Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton. There have been several meets between the two families since then (including both the President and Harry laughing together during a basketball game) that managed to cement their bond even further. There's no doubt in our minds that the two married couples will be seeing a lot of each other in future considering their mutual fondness. Pretty sure that the presidential couple shows no ill-will at not being invited to the wedding and will continue to remain close in the future.
14 Mama's Gold Boy - Elton John and David Furnish
He was one of their mother's closest friends at the time of her passing in 1997, and that's not forgotten by both Prince Harry and Prince William. Princess Diana had befriended Grammy Award-winning artist, Sir Elton John, and they quickly grew close, even during rough times. She stood by his side when they lost fashion designer and close friend, Gianni Versace, months before Diana's own tragic accident. “She kept her cool for me… at Gianni's funeral and she held her composure,” the singer told Barbra Walters, according to Harper's Bazaar. “I've got to do the same for her.”
Elton was even close with both boys in their youth, so it makes sense that they're still close to this day.
“I first met an extremely shy and sweet Prince Harry at a private lunch at Kensington Palace given by his mother Princess Diana for Gianni Versace and me many years ago,” Elton reminisced. “What a joy it has been to see that young boy grow to inherit his mother's warmth, sense of humor and courage to stand up and champion the causes he truly believes in.”
John sang for the Duke and Duchess at their private reception. According to insiders, he sang four songs which included “The Circle of Life” and “Tiny Dancer” for the couple and their 200+ guests.
13 Bringing The Funny - James Corden and Julia Carey
Everyone all around the world seems to adore The Late Late Show host James Corden (hello, have you ever seen his famous “Carpool Karaoke” segments on his show? They 're hilarious!). That adoration vastly grew when he was invited to the Royal Wedding. However, a lot of people noticed that the normally cheerful late night talk show host didn't look like himself once he was seated in the church. He looked downright uncomfortable. But there was a good reason behind it.
“There were flowers everywhere, the most beautiful flowers you've ever seen, and I get quite bad allergies if I'm in such close proximity to flowers,” Corden said on his show after he returned from all the partying, as reported by Huffington Post. “So for the ceremony I just needed to sneeze.”
Apparently, the host almost had a sneeze attack at the worst possible moment in the ceremony - right before the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, asked if anyone knew of a reason why the couple should not wed! “I was like, 'Please don't sneeze,' and I had to do one of those internal sneezes… I think I got away with it.”
Corden and his wife are charming at any function, so it's easy to see why the Royals adore them so much.
12 More Than Just Cast Members - Gabriel Macht and Jacinda Barrett
It's quite natural that Meghan Markle - who earned her claim to fame by being on the American TVA drama called Suits - would be close to a majority of the cast members on set. That includes actor Gabriel Macht and his wife, Jacinda Barrett. On the show, Macht's character played the colleague of Rachel (Meghan's character) and he took to Twitter to congratulate the royal couple when they announced their engagement last November.
Macht tweeted: “Congrats to @meghanmarkle and Prince Harry. Sending all my best for your upcoming nuptials and a long and happy life together. #love”
Meghan has always been close to her co-stars, including Macht and his wife, so it's only natural that the couples would become friends. It seems like a major blast to be in that circle of friends, too, considering the fun the cast had while riding the bus together for the royal wedding. Apparently, they all joined in on a sing-along on the ride with everyone singing The Dixie Cups' song “Chapel of Love” as they all rode to the wedding on the shuttle bus, as told by E Online. A video was shot by director Anton Cropper of the happening, with Macht, Sarah Rafferty, Abigail Spencer, and even Priyanka Chopra and Jacinda Barrett joining in on the fun.
11 Classy (and Musical) Outings - Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford
A lot of people were surprised to learn that Prince Harry is actually good friends with both actress Carey Mulligan and her husband, the singer Marcus Mumford. According to Elle, years ago, when Harry was dating Cressida Bonas back in 2013, the couple attended a Mumford & Sons concert (Mumford's band) and were even invited backstage, where they partied with the band until around one o'clock in the morning! Apparently, onlookers said it was at that point when the Prince became friends with Mumford and Mulligan. “He had quite a lengthy chat with Marcus and his wife, Carey Mulligan, who were in good spirits post-show,” an insider said, according to Marie Claire.
Mulligan is a known international face thanks to starring in the hit BBC series Doctor Who. Carey and Marcus' love story is actually a pretty good one: The two were apparently childhood pen pals and ended up losing touch in their youth. They ended up reconnecting as adults and fell madly in love. They were both involved in the film Inside Liewyn Davis and ended up getting married shortly after the movie wrapped. Together, they have two children, a daughter, and a son. Judging by their chemistry with the prince, the two couples will probably be seen hanging out at gathers in the near future after life settles down a little bit for the royal pair.
10 It's A Former TV Husband and New Husband Face-Off - Patrick J Adams and Troian Bellisario
He played her onscreen love interest in their show Suits, so naturally, Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle are close. In the final episode of the series, their characters finally got married to each other. A few months later, Meghan herself got engaged to Prince Harry in real life, and Patrick cracked a few jokes on Twitter, which had his followers rolling with laughter: “She told me she was just going out to get milk… ” the actor tweeted.
Later on, according to Harper's Bazaar, as the wedding plans got underway, Adams Instagrammed a photo of the front page of The Times, which featured a picture of Meghan and her mother, Doria Ragland, at the royal wedding rehearsal.
He continued the joke: “I'm beginning to think she might not actually be out getting milk. #royalwedding” he captioned.
Patrick actually deleted his Instagram account earlier in the year after posting a photo with Meghan. “I posted this old photo I had found of Meghan and I on set,” he told Esquire. “I went to bed, and woke up in the morning and realized 'Oh, yeah. I live in a world where you can't post things about Meghan.'” He joined the entire cast when they went to the wedding and had a private luncheon with the bride and the Queen as well.
9 Fashionable Duos - Jessica Mulroney and Ben Mulroney
There's only a handful of people who can claim to be one of the best friends of the newest Duchess, and Jessica Mulroney is one of them. As told by Town and Country, while Markle chose not to have a bridal party of her own, Jessica was an unofficial wedding planner for her bestie. Jessica's twin sons were even page boys, while her four-year-old daughter served as a bridesmaid! According to insiders, Meghan didn't want to have to choose who would be the maid of honor, so she opted to have her friends' children be the bridal party instead.
Before the wedding, Jessica flew to London in order to help Meghan finalize all the wedding plans. She even had a hand in picking the wedding dress designer.
“[Insiders] tell me that Meghan Markle has officially picked a wedding dress designer and had her first fitting at Kensington Palace last week. BFF and bridal expert Jessica Mulroney is guiding Meghan through the process and quietly flew to London on Jan 10, spending four days at the couple's Nottingham Cottage home,” royal correspondent Omid Scobie tweeted.
“[Jessica and Meghan] are on the phone daily discussing every element of the wedding, from the dress to the flowers to the canapés and the photography. Meghan is very dependent on Jessica and Jessica has been totally indispensable. She's helped Meghan and Harry with so much already,” an insider revealed, according to Vogue.
8 Her Best Friend For Life - Lindsay Roth and Gavin Jordan
As you can see, Meghan really did have a massive dilemma on her hands when it came to choosing who would be her maid of honor, which is why she rightfully chose not to have one at all. Along with Jessica Mulroney, author Lindsay Roth also tops the list of Meghan's best friends. Roth is Meghan's close buddy, whom she met in when both were attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Roth was the one who was rumored to be the maid of honor; Meghan was the maid of honor at Roth's wedding a couple years ago, when she married British accountant Gavin Jordan, so the speculations made sense.
Meghan is even the unofficial “original” of Roth's main character (an ambitious actress) in her novel What Pretty Girls Are Made Of.
Meghan is everywhere on Roth's Instagram account, and there are some darling photos where you can see how close the two really are (especially in Roth's own wedding photos).
They've been on vacation together and even attended Elton John's AIDS Foundation dinner together, as well as the U.S. Open.
“They have been BFFs since college,” an insider said in Daily Mail. “Everyone was gossiping about how Lindsay is going to be the Maid of Honour but then, a week ago, we were told to keep quiet.”
7 Close Friends Beyond The Camera - Sarah Rafferty and Aleksanteri Olli-Pekka
Sarah Rafferty is one of the main actors on Meghan's former show Suits and a good friend of the former actress. She and her husband attended the wedding, where Rafferty went on a social media rampage, constantly posting pictures of the wedding and of her family's vacation while there. There were gorgeous pictures of the rolling countryside in England.
Meghan and Sarah are extremely close in real life, and Meghan even referred to Sarah as her “Suits sister wife” on her own Instagram account (before she had to delete her account). As seen in Harper's Bazaar, Sarah even kept mum about the details of the entire wedding when asked by the media: “I don't comment on my castmates' personal lives, but of course, it's very exciting. And I'm very happy for her.”
Sarah was one of the names that were tossed about when people were asking about if Meghan would have a maid of honor or not, but like the rest of the girls in Meghan's inner circle, she didn't get the part. Both Sarah and her husband will likely hang out at functions in the near future and whenever each couple travels back and forth from England to the U.S.
6 Her Inner Circle Combined With His - Abigail Spencer and Josh Pence
You can't really work with someone for years on end without forming a close bond with that person, and that's why almost everyone who starred on Suits became such a close-knit family. That goes for actress Abigail Spencer and Meghan Markle. Spencer and Meghan actually first met over ten years ago when they were up for the part during a random audition, and later become good friends on the set of Suits. Abigail even contributes to Meghan's website, The Tig.
While Abigail has moved on to NBC's drama Timeless and Meghan has moved on to become British Royalty, they still remain close.
“She's had such a glorious and long career, obviously we worked on Suits together, and she's such a self-made woman,” Spencer told Extra back in March. “She had her own company, has designed clothing, she's really phenomenal. She's done so much work with World Vision and all of her charity efforts. She's really helped me learn more about things in the world that I need to be more involved in. I think it's wonderful she has a larger platform to do the work she's been doing, and I think Harry's pretty lucky.”
Those sound like gushing words from a close friend. We don't doubt that the two will continue to hang out in double date scenarios with their hubbies.
5 Wait, They Worked Together Yet Aren't Besties? - Chrissy Teigen and John Legend
If you didn't know, Chrissy Teigen and Meghan Markle actually worked together way in the past when they were suitcase models on the NBC game show Deal or No Deal back in 2007. Well, actually, they appeared as suitcase girls on different years, but never the less. Chrissy and her husband, John Legend, are so famous and adorable (and all over social media) that it's hard to believe that the couples don't know each other beyond appearing on the same show at one point in their lives.
“I tell John all the time: 'That could be me. I could be Princess Harry,'” Chrissy jokingly told Ellen DeGeneres on Ellen early this year when asked about the Royal wedding.
Meghan and Chrissy even reunited back in 2014 when they competed on DirectTV's Beach Bowl. So, we basically have the set up there for another reunion, only this time we want to see the two couples become BFFs so that Chrissy could live tweet events with her quick sense of humor (you know, the stuff she's allowed to share on social media since we know that the royal couple is pretty dang private). It would be pure entertainment and the world would just fall in love.
4 British Royalty Should Mix With American Royalty - Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
Okay, okay, we know that England doesn't have as much as of an obsession with Keeping Up With The Kardashians as Americans do, but does that mean they don't want to see the newlywed royals become super close with our own US celebrity royalty? Kim Kardashian and husband Kanye West are treated like royalty here, so why can't they cozy up with actual royalty? Sure, the couples couldn't be more different from each other, but both can swap paparazzi stories and bond over a well-cooked brunch (hopefully hosted by Chrissy Teigen? No? Is that asking too much?).
The reason behind the two couples not being friends could be because of how open the Kardashian family is, as compared to the mum's-the-word mentality of the British Royal Family.
They're really not that private (though they're getting better with that whole “no one say anything about Kylie Jenner's pregnancy” thing they got away with for a while) and their lifestyle would be something that would probably make Kensington Palace jumpy. That doesn't mean that they WON'T eventually all meet each other at some international function and we can be treated with all four of them in the same picture frame. That shouldn't be so far of a stretch to wish for, right? We think not.
3 This Couple Is Bound To Cross Paths With The Duke and Duchess - Beyonce and Jay Z
Okay, we understand that wanting Harry and Meghan to be besties with anyone in the Kardashian family is sorta pushing it, but now we have to ask this big question: how are they not friends with Beyonce and Jay Z??? We literally refer to Beyonce as Queen Bey here in the states. Now, these two couples did happen to cross paths when they were both on the guest list for Serena Williams wedding, but why didn't they drink and become close then? At least for our sakes? It should be noted that Kris Jenner was also at that function, so she must have crossed paths with the royals as well.
Both Beyonce and Meghan have one surprising other connection as well, according to Refinery 29: their photographer, Alexi Lubomirski, who not only took Meghan and Harry's engagement photos but their wedding photos as well. Thing is, he ALSO shot Beyonce for Harper's Bazaar, so they have in common.
Chances are they aren't close for the same reason the royal couple isn't close with the Kardashian family - they're too flashy. But we have to say, they're not as wild as the Kardashians appear to be, and a little tamer, so chances are this dream team could come together sometime in the later future - especially since they share some close friends.
2 The Fact That They Aren't All Close Is A Crime - Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka
Both actors Neil Patrick Harris and David Burka have to be one of the most adorable couples on the face of the planet and actually seem like the type of couple that Kensington Palace would love to see out and about the town with Prince Harry and Meghan. Both Neil and David wed after being together for over a decade and have the cutest children together. The two married in a private ceremony in Italy back in 2014 and their lives are broadcast over Instagram and Twitter with the couple constantly sharing photos of their seemingly perfect life.
“I think when our kids got to the age when they were having reasonable conversation where they're asking lots of 'why' questions, then it seemed [important] to be able to have a real clear-cut [identity] of who their daddy is - that he's my husband, it was easier than partner or boyfriend,” Harris told the ladies of The View on why they married.
Harris seems like the type who would adore being Meghan's bestie and vice versa (though, sorry Neil - she probably can't appear on your Instagram as often as you would like her to).
They are both two lovely couples with very similar ethics and morals, so this friendship would just make sense.
Who wouldn't love to see the Prince and Meghan getting together with the Harris-Burtka family?
1 Come To Think Of It, The Newlyweds Should Be Friends With The Entire Cast Of 'Game Of Thrones' - Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas
Okay, this is a question we find ourselves asking all the time: how is that that absolutely NONE of the cast of Game of Thrones was invited to the royal wedding? Heck, how come we've really never seen the couple meeting (or friends) with the any of the actors? One such couple would be Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas as a Thrones bestie pair for the royal couple. They're young (maybe too young?) and they're apparently down to earth and fun as heck according to other people who surround them on a daily basis. So what gives?
This could be because they're both at different places in their relationships and yes, the age factor probably does play a key role here. While Harry and Meghan are in their 30's and have settled down and are ready to start a family, Sophie and Joe may not see their lives that way just year since they're in their 20's. Sophie is just wrapping up her role on Game of Thrones (which ends next year) and Joe is busy traveling the world with his music. Though that could leave room for the pairs to become friends later down the line when Sophie and Joe have aged a little bit more? Could be in the future, who knows?
